There is at present no direct research activity conducted through a EUMETNET Programme, although research concerning climate monitoring is performed in the ECSN framework.

The first Programme that was established by EUMETNET in 1996 was however MAP-NWS, a Programme to support the international research Programme MAP (Mesoscale Alpine Programme) aimed at solving problems of atmospheric physics and meteorology linked to the influence of mountain ranges on the atmosphère.

A Programme on computer assisted learning (EUMETCAL) was started in 2001. This programme will maintain and develope the intendance of the EuroMET Programme which was conducted under the aegis of Framework Programme IV of the European Union.
