| The OBS-INFO Programme
started on 1 October 2000 to co-ordinate the exchange of information concerning
tests, evaluation and operational practices linked to observing systems. |
| The objective of this
programme is to ensure a sharing of the knowledge and know-how that the
observation divisions of the EUMETNET Members accumulate in the course of
their activities. It is hoped that the pooling of information will : |
- Avoid duplication
of work since Members will have access to the results of tests or experiments
performed by other,
- Help those Members
who cannot maintain enough resources on these subject to be nevertheless
knowledgeable about the evolving techniques of meteorological observation,
- Improve the quality
of observations through identification of best operational practices,
- Stimulate the development
of meteorological observing systems in the areas where weaknesses exist,
such as the automatic observation of present weather.
|
| In other words, the
programme aims at ensuring that the National Meteorological Services remain
"intelligent customers" and partners for industry and improve
the standards of their observation infrastructure. |
| The Deutscher Wetterdienst
wais responsible for the OBS-INFO Programme. |
| The Programme Manager
was Dr. Günter Olbrück. |
